The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) has officially signed a consultancy contract valued at $2.3 million with Project Planning & Management Ltd. (Bulgaria) and Libanconsult AGM (Lebanon). This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing flood mitigation and climate resilience across South Sudan, particularly in flood-prone and refugee-hosting areas.
The consultancy aims to conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, develop critical designs, and provide thorough construction supervision for vital infrastructure projects. During the contract signing, Mr. Andrew Stephen Yunda, MWRI’s Director of Planning, highlighted the project’s dual focus on immediate and long-term solutions. “This contract sets the groundwork for priority flood interventions and water resource management solutions, which are critical for the safety and development of vulnerable communities,” Yunda stated.
Over the next two years, this consultancy will play a pivotal role in strengthening South Sudan’s capacity to withstand climate-related challenges. It will ensure that affected populations receive comprehensive support through the effective planning and execution of essential infrastructure projects, including the construction of dykes and dams. By addressing both the urgent and sustainable needs of communities, this initiative aims to create a more resilient future for South Sudan amid the increasing impacts of climate change.
